ABOUT

Twenty years inside the systems.

From classrooms to data centers to data pipelines — teaching complex systems, landing them with customers, and now measuring them.

THE BACKGROUND

Where the judgment comes from.

Teaching the system.

From 2001 to 2006 I was a technical instructor at CAE Inc. headquarters in Montreal — but travelled worldwide — teaching week-long courses to customer teams — from CMMI configuration management with StarTeam to jumpstart classes on the HLA STRIVE military simulation framework.

After that I went independent again as Lotek Solutions Enr. (lotek.info), providing website hosting, design, and programming to design companies that outsourced their build work. Typically the studio handled design, a copywriter handled words, and I turned both into web code — across many projects. The portfolio ran to minimal designs in the style I liked — risingtao.ca among them — plus a Ruby on Rails online store that drove a search engine over doublereedshop.com's entire catalog.

Owning the signoff.

In 2010 I joined EMC (Dell EMC from 2016) as a SAN implementation specialist. That role grew into VSAN and then HCI work — deploying VxRail clusters "a cluster every other week for years" for medium and large businesses, every project alongside the sales team and their SAs, with me owning the customer work through final signoff. I left Dell EMC in 2022 in order to pursue a new career path.

Measuring what runs.

My focus today is data analytics, with a growing interest in technical data analytics and data engineering. My background includes EMC Proven Professional certification and earlier SAN/VSAN certifications, alongside the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate, which gave me an opportunity to build on my existing technical knowledge and explore new ways of working with data.

The thread has always been the same: classrooms, data centers, pipelines — making complex systems understandable to the people who depend on them, and helping teams bring new technology into constantly evolving environments.
